Our Story

Established in August 2005, the Northern Utah Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (NUSANE) comprised a dedicated team of specially trained registered nurses committed to offering vital support to victims of sexual violence across four northern Utah counties: Weber, Morgan, Davis, and Box Elder.

Through collaborative efforts with various law enforcement agencies, a dedicated clinic was established in South Ogden and NUSAFE registered as a 501c3 non-profit organization.

For over 15 years, NUSANE operated independently, supplying all necessary resources, including examination tools, evidence collection, preventive medications, and patient outreach materials.

In 2020, a significant milestone was achieved as NUSANE secured a federal VOCA grant from the Office for Victims of Crime, allowing a substantial expansion in services and the acquisition of advanced medical equipment.

The year 2023 heralded a pivotal change as NUSANE evolved to become NUSAFE — The Northern Utah Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners— extending its services to encompass care for victims of domestic and interpersonal violence, specifically those affected by strangulation.
